GET TO KNOW THE PLACE

A shell-white bay, just beyond Brasilito.

Conchal is a beach to spend time in, not simply photograph and leave. Its pale shoreline is made up of countless shell fragments, with Punta Conchal separating the bay from neighbouring Brasilito. The panorama gives you the bigger picture: the curve of the coast, the headland and the green land behind it.

Plan around the beach itself first. Walking the shoreline, finding a comfortable place to settle and leaving time for lunch makes a more flexible day than packing in every activity. Resort restaurants and facilities are a separate experience: being on the beach does not automatically give you access to them.

What to make time for

01

Walk the shell shoreline

Start with a walk along the bay and look back towards Punta Conchal. Leave every shell where it is: removing shells from Costa Rican beaches is illegal and can be fined. Choose a comfortable route for your group rather than trying to cover every stretch.

02

See the bay from the water

The tourism board lists boat excursions, diving and other water sports among Conchal's activities. Choose a local operator and an outing that fits your group, then check the conditions, equipment and full price for that day.

03

Take the scenic route

Punta Conchal opens up views along the coast to the south. Walking and guided horseback excursions are other ways to experience this stretch of Guanacaste; arrange any guided outing directly with its operator.

04

Pair it with Brasilito

Brasilito is the neighbouring beach town and a useful place to organise your arrival and a meal. Confirm your return transport before you settle in at Conchal.

A day, at your own pace

Suggested plan, not a booked itinerary.

  1. ARRIVE

    Sort access before the beach

Choose your drop-off or parking arrangement around Brasilito and confirm the walking route. Do not navigate to an aerial camera pin or assume a resort entrance is public beach access.

  2. EXPLORE

    Walk, settle in, then decide

Look along the bay before choosing your spot. Leave room in the plan for changing conditions and the energy level of your group.

  3. EAT

    Lunch with a plan

Return towards Brasilito for your meal, or contact a resort restaurant first about non-guest access and reservations. Carry water rather than relying on a particular vendor being open.

  4. RETURN

Leave time for the way back

Allow for the walk to your vehicle or pick-up point. Take your belongings and rubbish with you, and confirm a taxi pick-up location rather than only naming the beach.

The practical questions

Do I need a hotel booking to plan a beach visit?

No. Costa Rican beaches are public by law (Ley 6043, the Maritime Terrestrial Zone law), so a resort stay is not required to visit the beach itself. Plan the access route separately. Reserva Conchal explicitly limits its Beach Club to members; restaurants, pools and other resort facilities may have their own access rules.

Where should I ask for directions?

Start with Brasilito and confirm the current public access route locally. The 360 photo was taken in the air, so its map point shows the photographed coast, not a car park or hotel entrance.

What should I bring?

Suggested packing: drinking water, sun protection, a hat, a towel, footwear suitable for the walk and shell fragments, and a bag for your rubbish. Keep phones and valuables protected from water and sand.

Is the walk suitable for everyone?

Sand, shell fragments and the route around the headland may be difficult with a wheelchair, buggy or limited mobility. Confirm a suitable arrival arrangement before travelling; this listing does not certify step-free beach access.

Can I book a nearby room or a restaurant?

Hotels listed below have a 360 tour on Discover Costa Rica: look inside, then request a booking from their page. Ask about day-visitor dining separately. No room availability, restaurant access or day pass is guaranteed by this page.
